Our Offering

saferspaces provides a digital infrastructure to promote discrimination-sensitive spaces
and to enable people in stressful or threatening situations to make quick, secure, and
anonymous contact.

Our offering includes:

  • QR code–based reporting options on site
    (e.g. on posters, stickers, screens)
  • Location-independent reporting portals
    (e.g. via venue links on social media, websites)
  • Integration into existing systems
    (app integration into existing apps)
  • Anonymous follow-up feedback options
  • Provision of metadata for analysis and long-term improvement of the security situation
  • System maintenance, further development, and technical support

Requirements for Use

For the saferspaces system to reach its full potential, certain conditions are required on
site. These should be coordinated jointly with organizers, security services, or
institutions during implementation.

Structural Requirements

  1. A trained awareness team that is approachable, visible, and competent in handling
    sensitive situations
  2. Availability of a trained and authorized coordination unit that responds sensitively
    to reports, communicates appropriately with reporting persons, coordinates teams,
    and, if necessary, involves other relevant services
  3. Accessible retreat spaces that provide protection and enable confidential conversations
  4. Clear procedures for responding to different situations, as well as a shared approach
    to dealing with discrimination, boundary violations, and assaults

Principles and Approach

  • Use requires a conscious, structurally anchored commitment to protection against
    discrimination, survivor-centered practice, and responsibility.
  • saferspaces should not be used as a purely technical add-on, but as part of a
    comprehensive protection concept.

Rapid Support, Whenever It Is Needed

Especially at large-scale events or in public institutions, structures are needed that can
respond quickly, de-escalate situations, and remain easily accessible.

The saferspaces system supports real-time assistance, for example in cases of:

  • Sexual assault, harassment, discrimination, or escalations of violence
  • Discomfort, lack of accessibility, missing relatives, disorientation, overwhelm, or
    emotional crises
  • Medical emergencies (with direct involvement of medical services)

Through its simple reporting structure, direct contact, and integrated team coordination,
saferspaces creates the foundation for rapid support—exactly when it is needed.

Division of Roles

saferspaces provides:

  • Technical infrastructure
  • Design of materials and QR code infrastructure
  • Digital system maintenance and support
  • Integration into existing systems

saferspaces does not provide:

  • Training or deployment planning of teams
  • Provision or operation of retreat spaces
  • Delivery of trainings or crisis intervention

Referral Support if Needed

If no suitable awareness team or coordinating body is available, or if there is a general
need for advice on protection concepts, saferspaces can, upon request, connect users with
regional specialist organizations that:

  • Train awareness teams
  • Plan retreat spaces or protection concepts
  • Support organizers in developing holistic measures
